A letter to my Dad… In case I ever forget to say it
A letter to my Dad.. In case I ever forget.
Yesterday was a BIG day for me. I announced to my Facebook world that I am going to pursue a dream. I became a business. I laid the first stone that will pave the way to my destiny. Life begins again.
ACK! What the hell was I thinking?
I was thinking that, if I am indeed going to do this photography thing: 1. I needed to admit it to myself OUT LOUD on a public podium where BAZILLIONS of people are listening. 2. I need to be held responsible, and who better to do that than friends and family. 3. I am going to need an endless amount of support, and who better to do that than friends and family. And 4…. Failure is not an option.
So that announcement was Day 0 for me… It all begins now!
With the excitement of officially embarking on this new journey I text my Dad a photo of my certificate. He calls to say congrats and that he knows I will be a success. “Your writing inspires me also. Don’t just take photos, WRITE. Think about putting out a short story. Get published. Combine both gifts and remain independent for the rest of your life. The creator is with you. Aim for the Stars AND the Moon. Because you can hit them both!”
My Dad… he believes in me.
We go through life always seeking that approval. We are always aiming to please. We are ALWAYS SEEKING validation. And while the endless love and support from fam and friends was overwhelmingly amazing, it was THOSE WORDS from THAT MAN that I needed to hear to believe in myself as much as you all do.
He solidified my dream. He made me feel, he made me believe, he made me KNOW that this will happen.
Dad, when I was 14 years old, I remember coming home from High School and mentioning to you that I wanted to try out for the cheerleading team. You looked at me and said… “Kiddo you can do whatever you put your heart to. Go for it and good luck” And I did….
Now, at 32, I mention to you that I want to create my legacy, and you tell me, “Kiddo you can do whatever you put your heart to. Go for it and good luck” and I will….
Dad, Thank You.
Thank you for being the being that you are. For being the inspiration that you have become. And for being the force that no one else can reckon with.
I promise to make you proud… if at the very least, it will be my way of saying thank you.
You help me to believe that – “Life is full of amazing things. Always take a minute to smell the flowers by your feet. Feel the Sun on your face. Let the Rain cleanse your soul. Love with all that you have. Laugh with every breath. Live with purpose. Fight for your dreams. Reach for the Stars, Moon and Sun… Believe in you… cause I do. And remember, that I will always be here… right by your side… cheering you on.”
Love always & forever….. your biggest fan,
Chastity
