Five. Milestone. Amazing.

Every so often I close my eyes to go back to the day you were born and remember those feelings of anxiousness, excitement, fear and hope. There was something about you, from the moment I knew you would be mine, I knew you were going to change my life in unexpected ways.

I look at you now and I relish in your beauty. I am captivated by your smiles. I am in love with your laugh. To me, you are a creature from out of this world who has come to bless all those who know you with true love.

You have grown into your little character with such simple elegance. Your sense of self at 5 small years is amazing. Your love for music. Your infatuation with singing. Your appetite for dance. Your desire to make me laugh. Your wit. Your charm. Your affection towards all things small. Your insistence that life is a gorgeous mess. Your urge to express yourself through quirky style. You are beautiful chaos.

Your presence is a gift. I am blessed to know you. I am privileged to have you as my favorite little girl.

You have taught me that life is full of unexpected, fascinating events that inspire me to believe in fairies, unicorns and purple polka dot rainbows. You have taught me that anything is possible if you just close your eyes and see it. You are the reason I feel I can fly. You have given me the opportunity, as a mother, and as woman, to set a standard for myself so that when you’re young and vivacious and I’m old and gray you can look to me and say my mom is my hero. However, all the while little one, you have been my hero. You have given me courage. Courage to be me. Courage to achieve. Courage to strive. Courage to believe. Courage to be the best I can be — so that you can be proud.  I hope I make you proud. If only to allow you to feel the sense of pride that you inject in me.

Your love is the protective quilt I need to get through the coldest storms. Your energy is the force I need to make it through the toughest plights. You give me hope, strength and faith. I believe in you more than life itself.

On this 5th birthday – a journey of milestones –  I want you to know, that I love  you with all that I have. I have never thought a love like this could be possible. But it is. And it’s for you.

You will be someone great.

And I will always be your biggest fan.

My Queena, life is full of amazing things. Always take a minute to smell the flowers by your feet. Feel the Sun on your face. Let the Rain cleanse your soul. Love with all that you have. Laugh with every breath. Live with purpose. Fight for your dreams. Reach for the Stars, Moon and Sun… Believe in you… cause I do. And remember, that I will always be here… right by your side… cheering you on.
