Burning our town doesn’t bring awareness

I understand pain, I understand sadness, I understand hate, I understand frustration, I even understand rage to the point of outburst.
What I don’t understand is…
What I don’t understand is destroying lives of people disconnected from an incident.
I don’t understand putting fire to small businesses or stealing from people who shed blood sweat and tears to build what [little] they have. And I’m having an even harder time formulating an answer for my children that makes sense to the question “If they are mad at the police, why are they robbing and breaking that store? Why did they set fire to the car dealership? What do they have to do with it?”
Protesting to bring awareness, I get it.
Rioting to destroy our own cities and towns that are financially and morally struggling to begin with, incomprehensible.
And in this day and age with our technology, with the vast information available, and the ability to spread messages and gather support for a cause at the speed of light [think ice bucket challenge]…
I just don’t get it. And that makes me sad for everyone.
