“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”

Muhammad Ali

The greatest aren’t greats because of their undefeated records. Or their looks. Or their fancy things. The greatest are greats because of the impacts they had on our society. They’re great because they’ve inspired people who have lost hope. They are great because when you think about the ‘hard life’ and struggles you live, you look to them and can remember that they paved the way so that you can be your best and that giving up would be a insult to what they did for us all. They lived harder and struggled far worse than we could ever imagine.

We are given ONE life, as far as we know, and I truly believe that our legacy lives on in how we make those around us feel and how we serve each other. Our impact is beyond a footprint. Our impacts have the ability to outlast our lifetimes.

Ali wasn’t just a Boxer… he was the People’s Boxer, The People’s Champ. He was charismatic, and he was entertaining, but he fought back, and he stood for what he believed in, and at the end of it all He gave the people, His people, Hope. People will forget about the gifts you gave them, they may even forget about the places you took them… but people will never forget how you made them feel. This one Man made THE WORLD feel inspired, important, and hopeful. He made the WORLD see light during their darkest days. How many of us can say we did that.

That in itself is what insures his legacy will live for many, many years to come.

You don’t have to be a boxing fan to feel this impact. My heart hangs heavy today. But today we celebrate a legacy moving on to the next journey.

Rest Easy, Champ. You did us well. Now it’s our turn to make you proud.
