This isn’t something to be proud of. Ladies, cut it out!
There are these memes going around lately that say “When someone tries to hurt my feelings, but I’ve been dead inside for years.” (Wicked smiling face here) And from the lineup on my feed so far it’s mainly women posting this meme.
And it makes me sad. And mad. Really angry in fact.
These women, are mothers, like me. They’re the nurturer, they’re the #1 teachers of the youth that’s coming up in our world. The youth my Children have to travel this world with. And to see celebration of losing feeling deep within could only cause one to project that in the type of love and support we show to the generation that comes after us, your Children, OUR Children whether you’re aware of it or not.
There’s no glory in struggling. I’ve struggled. There’s no glory in single parenting. I was one. There’s no glory in being in unhappy and unhealthy relationships and friendships. I was there too.
It takes 2 people to create a child. Ad for that reason, it takes two people to raise a child. Yes, circumstances sometimes leave us to bear the responsibilities on our own, if not to adopt an uneven, map-programmed visitation set up. But that doesn’t mean that’s the way it is supposed to be. And we should all strive to break these unhealthy molds that our current society celebrates as victory.
So for one to lose all feeling and be dead inside, then what exactly are you doing? What is all this for? Once we obtain a state of consciousness YOUR feelings are perhaps the only thing you have control of. Once you are aware, you can understand that you can’t control what people say and do, but you sure can control how you react to them. Yeah, sometimes our emotions get the best of us, but even then, feeling angry is being alive! Feeling mad or hurt is being ALIVE. Feeling happy that you didn’t let someone control your emotions, is being ALIVE. To celebrate that you’re dead inside, means that everyone in your past, anyone that’s ever hurt you, all your negative experiences, they won… Each and every one of them, they controlled you, they over powered you, and they succeeded at leaving a life lasting impact on you. They must have all been really important huh? So important that, while they’re not around, their shitty residue still is?
Even deeper than that, all the suppression put out into this world, all the crap that’s put in front of your eyes that’s meant to hold you back, all the negative energy surrounding you and those you love, that’s all winning too. You’re letting them win. You’re letting them keep you down. You’re letting them make you yet another statistic.
Being dead inside means you’re a Zombie. It’s means they’ve succeeded. It means the societal vampires have you right where they need you in order for them to continue living and for you to be their gateway. Why does this annoy me so? Well aside from the lack of strength that this portrays, in light of recent events with #AltonSterling #PhilandoCastile #DallasPolice we need to stand strong as Women, and in order to do that we need to FEEL. Feel angry, feel scared, feel concerned so that we can teach our young men how to be responsible and respectable and teach our young women how to prevail and how to persevere. We need to feel the pain, understand where it comes from and learn how to re-direct it so that it doesn’t overpower us or our families. We need to feel joys so that we can remember all the reasons we do this for.
We need to feel love, because at the end of our days, that’s all we really have. That’s what’s going to make all the difference in every decision we make and every path we choose.
So my fellow women, stop bragging about being dead inside. It’s exactly what they want you to be in order to keep you suppressed. Be alive. Feel. Love.
